UP CLOSE: AIROH AVIATOR 3

Airoh have released their all-new premium level helmet - the Aviator 3. Lightweight, sharp and clearly dangerous, this top shelf helmet comes with a lot in the box.

I have had the pleasure of owning, riding and racing with the Airoh Aviator 2.2, and it’s been in the rotation of go-to helmets since 2018. Manufactures say that helmets have a shelf life of about 7 years from the date of production, while the general riding community agrees that after about 4-5 years, you should retire your helmet from use - assuming the helmet had not suffered any accidents or significant impacts. So technically, it’s almost bang on time to get a new Airoh in the mix- Coincidence?

“Leave everyone behind again with the ultimate competition helmet.”

“Aviator 3 raises the level of competition and redefines the standards of an off-road helmet. The shell was designed using the wind tunnel to engineer the best weight and performance. Extreme attention was therefore paid to aerodynamics, with the aim of making the helmet stable even at high speeds, and to thermodynamics, to optimize thermoregulation.”

“Airoh's helmet technology is condensed in the Aviator 3, including AMS2+ (Airoh Multi-action Safety System Plus), AEFR (Airoh Emergency Fast Release) and AMLS (Airoh Magnetic Lining System) systems introduced in the previous version and expanded on to now include magnetic cheek pads.”

“The 8 air intakes and spoilers with integrated extractors make the fitting of Aviator 3 comfortable even in the most extreme conditions of use, as does the innovative AHS (Airoh Hydration System) integrated into the EPS.”

I know with the explosion of the wide-peripheral goggles into the industry, my Aviator 2.2 sometimes struggled to accommodate the large options out there, like the !00% Armega and the Leatt Velocity. So it would be good to see if the port hole in the new Aviator 3 is larger. If I had to guess I would say yes, as current Junior World Enduro Champion Hamish MacDonald is using 100% goggles for the 2021 season inside his Airoh helmet.

The only other downside I see is probably the price tag of $1399 - That is possibly the most expensive off-road helmet on the Kiwi market right now? But think to yourself…what is your head worth? That’s something only you can decide.

What’s in the box? The answer is lots!
